Mugshots

2 months, seriously? Never has this blog been so neglected.

I need to get moving on a painting, so this will be short.

First is a closeup of a quick b-day drawing I did for someone. I have been roughing drawings out in red ink, then going over them in black. I like how it looks.

The rest are a collection of mugshots that I have been trying to post daily on my twitter.

WTF am I doing on twitter?

Seriously...

They're just little head drawings done directly in ink on post-its. They aren't always good, but that's the way it goes.

Whoa, I have been gone so long that the blogger interface has changed.

Focus

The blog continues to suffer as I continue working at this whole employment thing (which is awesome by the way.)

I'll catch up eventually.

Until then, here's a quick photoshop drawing.

I had a camera that used to prefer to focus on things in the background.

Now I have a new camera.

UFEST 2010

Ouch, it's been over a month since my last post.

It has been a CRAZY 2010 so far. The biggest news being that I now have a full time job. Not scraping by freelancing has been a nice change. Lets hope it stays that way.

I'm slowly getting back on schedule and hope to get moving forward on NW2G very soon. Issue one is inked and scanned, waiting for colour. I think I'll thumbnail the rest of the story before I get back to pencilling.

You can see a sneak peak of one of the pages on my recently started twitter account...

jhmonkeyfeather

I'll post a different one here later this week.

Until then, here is a poster I recently completed for KUPD's next UFest. This is sans logos, titles, etc...

I was trying to do my best to paint like Alberto Mielgo. As you can see, I am no threat to his status of AWESOME.

Inks in progress. There will be a pause for some paying gigs unfortunately. Pay is good though.

NW2G Pencils Part 1

Christmas is over, and the nun was busy. The Vampires didn't do so well over the holidays...

More ApeekA Zoo

New animals were added to the ApeekA Zoo app. You can find it in iTUNES.

Here's a few more designs that I did.

NW2G Thumbs Part I

Here are some shots of the thumbnails I did for the first issue. I drew directly in the script that I wrote, and did them a lot smaller than I have in the past.

These will make no sense.

Enjoy!

This is a design sketch for a vampire security team. I've decided on a slightly different approach now, so this thing is obsolete. Good thing, because his right hand really sucks.

NW2G Development

A few sketches as I prepare to draw the Nun With 2 Guns story.

First up are some explorations of the characters she encounters in issue 1.

Now onto the Nun herself. I realised that her design wasn't as clear in my head as I thought.

Ignore the top left of the image below. It was inspired by Patricio Betteo, and has nothing to do with this...

My goal is to treat her nun clothing as close to a silhouette as possible. I'm more interested in just playing with the shape. Of course, this is what I say now. I could get into the story and chicken out.

Okay, I'm getting closer with this last group.

The Nun With 2 Guns on the desk

The above pic is what my desk looked like last month. It's only SLIGHTLY less cluttered now.

This one is a shot of a Halloween House I designed for another app. It should be out soon. Just in time for Halloween... 2010? You can't tell from the photo, but the drawing is pretty giant. I think it ended up being 17" x 20". I can never draw that type of stuff small for some reason. It's a bunch of 8.5" x 11" pieces of paper taped together.

The following pics are some sketchbook shots.

The Nun With 2 Guns

This was a thing that started over in the comments section of WJC's blog.

I hope to do another one when I get a spare minute or two. This was a quick doodle in my sketchbook. The spelling of PREY is intentional.

If you haven't seen Warwick Johnson Cadwell's work before, go

HERE NOW

His work is AWESOME.

ApeekA Zoo

It's a sea of apps out there folks. They're all the rage. I recently worked on an app called ApeekA Zoo.

I didn't do any of the technological wizardry, but I did get to design and colour all of the characters and backgrounds. A selection of which, you can see here.

The app is for toddlers I guess aged 2-4, it's designed to teach them their animals. The plan is to update the app with new animals on a regular basis.

The App can be purchased from iTunes HERE

You can also see the apps in action at THIS youtube page.

So pick your little one up a fun little app, and if you like, leave some positive feedback on iTunes.

THANKS!

Jersey Gods #8!!!

A while ago I was lucky enough to be asked to do a pin up for Jersey Gods, an Image Comic by Glen Brunswick and Dan McDaid.

This is that pin up.

Go pick yourself up a copy. It's a fun read. Really fun.

Seriously.

More fun than you're having right now.

Especially if you're still reading this blog.

Why are you still here?

You should be half way to your local comic shop by now!!!!

Save the TATAs

I recently did a poster for a breast cancer charity event associated with their END OF SUMMER SCORCHER concert.
